Baba shines in the United Kingdom

Events  /  12th October 2024

November was quite a memorable month for the short film, ‘Baba’.

We won our very FIRST award earlier this month at the Film Africa Festival. Baba was nominated among other dope African films for the ‘Baobab Award for Best Short Film’.

Here are some things the jury noted in their selection for Baba;

1. Brilliant casting choices.
2. Authentic and complex performances by Malik Wandera and Victor Makgati.
3. Great music score, Dialogue, and use of silence.

"Baba is an indelible story that left us sobbing and also in quiet hope... We hope that by spotlighting this film, it will travel widely and touch as many hearts and minds as it did us."
- Baobab Award Jury

Receiving this award is such an honor and we’re super grateful to the entire cast and crew that worked tirelessly to bring this very important story to life.

Shortly after, Baba headed to Scotland for the Africa in Motion Film Festival where the film was a finalist for the festival’s Short Film Competition selected from over 600 entries.

Director, Mbithi Masya was also recently hosted on the PanAfrican film Podcast where he talks more about why he created the film and some exciting future plans. Listen to the episode here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7pDfBHVf2tJryrtnLF4qmT?si=758d770e5e3e4144&nd=1

We’re super grateful for Baba’s exciting journey and we look forward to sharing the film with more audiences.
