INHERITANCE LIGHTS UP THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT

Events  /  22nd August 2025

The short film Inheritance, directed by Barbara Minishi, produced by Ivy Kiru, and written by Ngwatilo Mawiyoo, is on a roll!

The film has officially been selected for three incredible festivals this year, kicking things off with a win at the Lois Weber Film Festival 2025, where it took home the Best Foreign Film award.

The Lois Weber Film Festival, named after the silent film pioneer, celebrates bold, women-led storytelling making it a perfect home for Inheritance to begin its festival journey.

Next stop was the Seattle Black Film Festivalwhere the film screened at the iconic Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. We’re proud to be part of a festival that has spent the last 20+ years spotlighting powerful stories from the Black experience and creating space for connection between filmmakers and communities.

Inheritance has also been recognized as a Semifinalist at the Black and Brown Femme Film Festival 2025, standing out from over 300 submissions for its artistry, voice, and vision, another proud moment for the team!

And we’re not done yet, Inheritance will be heading to New York City this May as part of The African Film Festival New York lineup. The film is set to screen at BAM Rose Cinemas on Monday, May 26 at 8:30 PM.

We’re incredibly grateful to all the programmers, audiences, and festival teams who are helping Inheritance find its people across the globe.
